PHA / Gluconolactone

PHAs are the gentlest exfoliating acids. Gluconolactone is the most common and offers both gentle exfoliation and moisture, which makes it interesting for sensitive skin.

Suits

Sensitive and dry skin, and anyone who finds AHAs too strong.

Time of day

Morning or evening

Works well with

Hyaluronic acid, ceramides, niacinamide and SPF.

What isPHA / Gluconolactone?

PHA stands for polyhydroxy acids. They have larger molecules than AHAs and therefore work more slowly and more superficially.

What is it used for?

It is used in formulations for gentle exfoliation and a hydrated skin feel.

Be careful with

Even though PHA is gentle, it should not be layered with other acids or retinol on the same evening.

Good to know

Can be interesting in products designed for gentler exfoliation, but tolerance is always individual.
